Christianson, William Philip

William P. Christianson (Phil), age 89, of Weyauwega, died on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca, Wisconsin.

He was born on March 3, 1924, in Glenwood City, WI, the son of the late Maurice and Naomi (Knapton) Christianson. Phil graduated from Glenwood City High School and then attended Texas A&M, and later received his BS from UW-Stout. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. On February 7, 1948 Phil married Mavis Kramer at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Weyauwega. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2009. Phil rose through the ranks at Farmers Insurance Group, working in the Midwest to his eventual promotion to National Claims Director for Farmers Insurance Group. After retiring at age 52, Phil followed his passion for automobiles and became an antique car collector and historian. He was also an avid reader and after his retirement, he and Mavis frequently traveled to Europe. Phil will be remembered as a respected man, loved for his curiosity and sense of fairness and fun.

He is survived by a son, Philip (Francene) Christianson, Minnetonka, MN; a daughter, Ann (David) Person, Madison, CT; six grandchildren: Sarah, Amy, Matthew, Christy, Leah and Jack; four great-grandchildren: Rachel, Ada, Charles and Emma; two brothers, who also served in WWII, Maurice (Margie) Christianson, Flint, MI, and David (Mary) Christianson, Scottsdale, AZ, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service is being planned for a future date and an announcement will be forthcoming. The Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont, is assisting the family with arrangements.
