WFMS wrestlers show potential

Weyauwega-Fremont Middle School’s wrestling team recently completed its eight-week season with a 5-4 record in multi-duals and 22 individual champions crowned in three tournaments.

The team had a huge turnout of 26 wrestlers, according to coach Tim Potratz.

“All 26 boys that started the season finished the season,” he said. “The team focused on learning the basic skills and applying them to match competition. There was also a focus on team building and learning to practice and compete for the improvement of the entire team.

“What a great group of kids to work with this season,” he said. “Coaches Rich Tomaszewski and Dylan Hansen were very impressed with the determination and learning curve this group showed. All the boys improved a lot throughout the season and really enjoyed wrestling.”

Team leaders in wins for the season were Eddie Wohlt and Justin Kempf (22); Dylen Kicherer and Easton Groskreutz (19); Gavin Curtis (18); Kyle Loehrke and Chris Strehlow (17); and Noah Greening (15).

Team leaders in pins were Wohlt (19) and Loehrke (15), while takedown leaders included Groskreutz (35); Kempf, Wohlt and Kicherer (32); Curtis (30); and Ean Marker (29).
