Road work planned in Iola

A public meeting about the resurfacing of State Highways 49 and 161 is set for 7 p.m. Monday, April 22, at the Iola Community Center, 108 S. Main St., Iola.

The $612,000 project is scheduled to begin in late April, depending on the weather.

Representatives for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will be at the informational meeting. They will discuss the planned construction activities, the construction schedule and how traffic will be managed.

American Asphalt of Mosinee is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will resurface the roadway with new asphalt.

During construction, State 49 and State 161 between Anderson Road and County Road J will remain open to traffic with temporary daytime lane closures and flagging operations. Motorists can expect some delays.

During the flagging operations for milling and paving, parking areas will be closed. One side of parking throughout the village will remain open at all times.

No work will be allowed during the Iola Car Show or the Vintage Military show.

Construction is currently scheduled for completion by June 2013.

State transportation funds are paying for 100 percent of the project.
