Truckers find groove, win five

The Trucker varsity baseball team earned four wins in recent games against Waupaca, Xavier, and Berlin.

Clintonville 8, Waupaca 5

One day’s difference and a change of venue helped the Trucker varsity baseball team avenge Monday’s 3-1 loss to the Waupaca Comets. Clintonville traveled to Waupaca on Tuesday, April 24, and earned an 8-5 victory over the Comets.

Turner Doornink was 1×3 with a home run, and Kolin Kubitz added two home runs and five RBI to boost the Trucker offense.

Clintonville got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first inning and three in the second.

Waupaca answered by putting up five runs in the bottom of the second inning to even the score.

The Truckers scored three runs in the top of the fifth, and the defense held Waupaca scoreless for the rest of the game to seal the victory.

Clintonville’s eight runs were accompanied by 12 hits, while the team committed three errors. Waupaca’s five runs came on seven hits with no errors.

Jansen Van Daalwyk earned the win on the mound, while Josh Houtman took the loss for Waupaca.

Adam Weatherwax had a good day at the plate, going 3×5. Nick Hogen was 2×3.

Clintonville 10, Xavier 9

Both teams scored one run in the first inning, while Xavier added one in the second and three in the third to take a 5-1 lead.

Clintonville’s offense came to life in the bottom of the third inning, as the Truckers scored seven runs to take an 8-5 lead.

Xavier answered with one run in the fourth, but Clintonville added two in the bottom half of the inning. Xavier added one run in the sixth, but couldn’t catch the Truckers, who won by a 10-9 margin.

Xavier scored its nine runs on 12 hits, while committing two errors. Clintonville scored 10 runs on eight hits while committing four errors.

Parker Mindel led the offense, going 2×3 with 2 RBI. Kubitz hit a double and had 2 RBI.

Clintonville 12, Berlin 2

The Truckers led 7-2 after two innings, and added five runs over the next three frames to win 12-2 in five innings.

The Truckers had 12 hits while committing one error. Berlin had two hits, while committing three errors.

Weatherwax earned the win on the mound, while also going 2×3 at the plate. Paisar was 2×4, Jake Van Allen was 2×3 with 3 RBI, and Hogen was 2×3.

Clintonville 21, Berlin 0

Hogen pitched a perfect game with five strikeouts over five innings, and the Trucker offense exploded for 21 runs.

Clintonville scored one in the first inning, six in the second, four in the third, and 10 in the fourth. The team cranked out 19 hits and committed no errors. Berlin committed six errors in the game.

Weatherwax was 4×5 for Clintonville, while Kubitz was also 4×5 with a triple, home run, and six RBI. Doornink was 2×3 with a home run. Van Daalwyk was 2×5, Hogen was 2×4, and Luke Eggers was 2×2.

Clintonville 6, Little Chute 3

Doornink pitched a complete game, striking out seven batters, and the Trucker offense backed him in the later innings.

Little Chute led 2-0 after 2 1/2 innings, but Clintonville tied the game in the bottom of the third. The Truckers added one run in the fourth and three in the fifth, while Little Chute scored one run in the top of the sixth.

Clintonville had 9 hits and committed four errors. Little Chute had four hits and committed three errors.

Weatherwax was 2×4 for the Truckers, while Kubitz hit another home run and had 2 RBI.
