Common sense law means protecting people
In his opposition to common sense gun laws, Mr. Oerter blames liberals for all the legal restrictions he doesn’t like, including laws no government has ever enacted or even proposed, such as banning cell phones or mandating blunt-edged knives.
Contrary to Mr. Oerter’s assertions, common sense gun laws are ones that require a background check ro make it more difficult for people with criminal convictions or a history of mental illness to buy guns.
The majority of people in this country support some measure of gun control. But the National Rifle Association and the gun industry are lobbying Congress so it won’t happen. Amazing how easy it is for money to mean more that constituents to our elected officials at all levels today.
Someone can give a 5-year-old a “child-sized” rifle for his birthday and then not teach him how and when to use it so he kills his 2-year-old sister. Or there’s the 4-year-old girl who picked up a loaded rifle from a bed, where an adult had left it, took it outside and killed her 6-year-old cousin.
Personally, I’d much rather be a left-leaning liberal who cares about all people even when they are too dumb to guard their own children, than be a Tea Party member who spouts twisted versions of history and doesn’t give a tinker’s dam about anyone else but themselves. And I would certainly rather have a liberal watch my back.
