Edible creations at Sweet Magnolia Cakery

Edible art creations can be found at Sweet Magnolia Cakery, located within Familiar Grounds.

“I’m excited to be welcomed so graciously by the community and I had a lot of fun meeting so many new faces during my open house,” said owner Heidi Hoewisch.

The open house was held in late April at Familiar Grounds, 206 N. Pearl St., New London.

Hoewisch has been making cakes for the last 10 years for her friends, her three children and other family members.

“A few years ago I had been asked to make cakes for friends of friends, co-workers and more,” she said, “so I decided that it was time to make a living out of a much loved hobby.

With an associate’s degree in Interior Design, Hoewisch has always loved art and creating things with her hands.

“So, naturally, I put my knowledge and love into each cake that I create and I try to make it personal to each and every client,” she said.

All of the cake recipes are made from scratch, resulting in moist and flavorful cakes.

“I try to make everything in my cakes edible,” Hoewisch said.

At Sweet Magnolia Cakery, she creates cakes for all occasions: Weddings, birthdays, showers, anniversaries, christenings, graduations, seasonal and any other reason to eat cake.

“Just remember, cake travels,” she said.

Hoewisch has lived in New London for the past 15 years.
