Lady Bulldogs push record to 8-3

The Lady Bulldog varsity softball team played six games last week, winning four and losing two.

New London 6, West De Pere 1

New London led 6-0 before West De Pere could get on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. New London had five hits and one error, while West De Pere had five hits and two errors. The teams combined to leave 17 runners on base, and the game had only one extra base hit. Abby Elsholtz hit a solo home run in the third inning.

Shelby Sommer earned the win, pitching seven innings while allowing one run on five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Alanna Beyer was 1×2, Sommer was 2×3, Emily Wilfuer was 1×4, and Elsholtz was 1×2.

West De Pere 6, New London 5

Both teams scored one run in the first inning, but the Phantoms added three in the third inning to take the lead.

New London tied the game by scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning, but West De Pere answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

New London scored one run in the fifth, but couldn’t plate the tying run in the sixth or seventh innings.

The Lady Bulldogs had seven hits while committing three errors, and the Phantoms had 11 hits to go with one error.

Beyer was 1×4, Sommer was 4×4 with a home run, Natalie Kurth was 1×3 with 2 RBI, and Kansas Walbruck was 1×3 with one RBI.

Tanna Spencer pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Sommer finished the game, pitching 2 2/3 innings while allowing one run on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

New London 11, Denmark 1

The Lady Bulldogs trailed 0-1 after one inning, but scored 11 unanswered runs over the next six innings to earn the win.

Beyer was 1×4 with one RBI, Sommer was 3×3 with four RBI, Wilfuer was 1×2 with 2 RBI, Elsholtz was 1×3, Quinter was 1×3, Jenna Mytton was 1×3, Haley Steffanus was 1×1, CJ Beyer was 1×3, Amber Doughty was 1×1, and Kansas Walbruck was 1×4.

New London left seven runners on base. Sommer, Walbruck and Elsholtz all hit doubles for the Lady Bulldogs.

Sommer earned the win, pitching five innings. She allowed three hits and one run while striking out four. CJ Beyer pitched one inning, walking one and striking out one.

New London 9, Denmark 1

Denmark led 1-0 going into the fifth inning, but New London scored two in the bottom half of the fifth and seven in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away.

Beyer was 2×4 with 1 RBI, Molly O’Connell was 2×4, Sommer was 2×4 with 3 RBI, Wilfuer was 1×4, Elsholtz was 2×3 with one RBI, Morgan Gorges was 1×3 with 3 RBI, Walbruck was 2×3, and Steffanus was 1×2 with one RBI.

Sommer hit a home run, while Steffanus cracked a triple and Walbruck belted a double.

O’Connell earned the win, pitching seven innings. She allowed four hits and one run while striking out nine.

New London 2, Oconto Falls 1

The Panthers scored one run in the first inning, but the Bulldogs tied it in the fourth and scored the winning run in the fifth inning on a two-out single that plated Kansas Walbruck.

Sommer pitched and earned the win. Quinter led the team on offense, going 3×3. Beyer was 2×3.

Oconto Falls 7, New London 1

The Panthers scored three in the first inning and one in the second before New London could get on the board with two runs in the fourth inning. Oconto Falls added one run in the fourth and two in the sixth to seal the game.

Sommer took the loss, but led New London’s offense, going 2×4.

Oconto Falls’ Liz Mannas was 3×4 with two home runs.
