Failing to buckle up has consequences

If you make a habit of buckling every time you drive or ride in a vehicle, you’re not only protecting yourself from possible injury or death in case of a traffic crash-you’re also protecting your family and friends from a lifetime of grief.

Many of us in law enforcement have responded to traffic crashes where unbuckled drivers and passengers were needlessly injured or killed.

We’ve seen lives destroyed and families devastated simply because someone was not wearing a safety belt.

To prevent deaths and injuries, the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, along with law enforcement agencies from all over Wisconsin, will be out in force to crackdown on unbuckled motorists during the annual Click It or Ticket mobilization from May 20 to June 2.

During Click It or Ticket and throughout the year, we take safety belt enforcement seriously.

We’re the ones who have to tell families that someone they love was involved in a traffic crash and now is in the hospital emergency room or even worse-the morgue.

We must deliver this tragic news even when we know that a safety belt could have prevented a serious injury or death.

Buckling up requires very little time or effort yet it can have an enormous impact on everyone you know and love. So please buckle up every trip, every time, so we can achieve zero deaths on Wisconsin roads.
