Track athletes advance to sectional competitions

The season continues for several Waupaca, Weyauwega-Fremont, Amherst and Iola-Scandinavia athletes that placed in the top four May 20 at regional competition.

Waupaca’s qualifiers will move on today (Thursday, May 23) to the Division 1 Ashwaubenon Sectional; W-F and Amherst qualifiers will compete in Little Chute; and I-S qualifiers will head to Rosholt.

Here’s a rundown of athletes that are moving on:

Division 1

NEW LONDON – Tatiana Sotka and Macie Davidson each won an individual event for the Comets at the New London Regional.

Sotka won the girls’ 100-meter dash in 13.1 seconds and also placed second in 200-meter dash. Davidson turned in a time of 59.3 seconds to win the 400-meter dash and she also placed third in the 200-meter dash.

Also advancing for the Comets are Alisa Blank, second, 300-meter hurdles; Michelle Petkovsek, second, 800-meter run; the girls’ 1,600-meter relay team of Petkovsek, Blank, Sotka and Davidson, second; and Brogan Kendiora, fourth, 300-meter hurdles;

Division 2

APPLETON – A pair of W-F distance runners each won a race to lead the Indians at the Fox Valley Lutheran Regional. Corey Zeutzius won the 800-meter run in 2:00.2, while Nick Thomas won the 1,600-meter run in 4:42.7.

Also advancing for W-F are Elizabeth Abhold, second, shot put and discus; Caragan Volz, second, 800-meter run and fourth, triple jump; Luke Rohloff, second, 110-meter hurdles; Danielle Austreng, third, high jump; Alyse Peters, third, 3,200-meter run; Trevor Fitzpatrick, third, triple jump and fourth, long jump; the boys’ 400-meter relay team of Rohloff, Fitzpatrick, Logan Erdmann and Dustin Hanes, third; the girls’ 1,600-meter relay team of Austreng, Jane Beyer, Mikaela Hintz and Volz, third; and the boys’ 1,600-meter relay team of Zeutzius, Carl Koch, Rohloff and Lincoln Van Cuick, third.

Lindsay Rutz won the shot put event with a toss of 36 feet, 10 1/2 inches and the discus event with a throw of 111 feet, 4 inches to lead Amherst.

Ashley Pionkowski won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.5 and placed third in the long jump. Amherst’s other qualifiers are Alissa Niggeman, third, 100- and 300-meter hurdles; and Jacob Brenner, fourth, 200-meter dash.

Division 3

PLAINFIELD – Shelby Trzebiatowski turned in the only first-place finish for Iola-Scandinavia at the Plainfield Tri-County Regional, as she won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.9.

Also moving on for the Thunderbirds are Claire Bestul, second, discus; the boys’ 800-meter relay team of Matt Matheny, Devin Paulson, Travis McKinney and Dylan Robbins, second; the boys’ 1,600-meter relay team of Paulson, Matheny, Tanner Krusa and Robbins, second; the boys’ 400-meter relay team of Tyler Ambacher, Seth Bauer, Justin Schumacher and McKinney, third; the girls’ 1,600-meter relay team of Trzebiatowski, Emily Sether, Hunter Frye and Amanda Hardel, third; Frye, fourth, 400-meter dash; Krusa, fourth, 300-meter hurdles; and Sether, fourth, 1,600-meter run.
