Iona E. Peterson, age 88, of Waupaca, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013 with family at her side.
She was born on June 30, 1924 to Clarence and Hermaline (Peters) Anderson. On July 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to John Peterson and he preceded her in death in June of 1989. Iona worked as a seamstress for the Wisconsin Veterans Home for 20 years. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, traveling, camping, and adored her pet cats.
Her survivors include: three daughters, Sandra Gabrielson, Linda (Ronald) Hanson and Bonita DeSigne, all of Waupaca; grandchildren: Scott (Krissy) Hanson, Kayla (Jason) Stalter, Lance (Val) Gabrielson, Karen Gabrielson and Mandi DeSigne; eight great-grandchildren: Lyndsay, Ryan, Ross, Makenna, Easton, Brecken, Keegan and Owen. She is further survived by a brother, David (Beverly) Anderson of Seymour; sisters, Beatrice (Clarence) Peters and Carol Strike, both of Waupaca. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John; sister and brother-in-law Geraldine (Willard) Larson; brother-in-law Leon Strike; and two sons-in-law: David Gabrielson and Mike DeSigne.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Waupaca, with Rev. Larry Gross officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place alongside her husband at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Maple Crest Funeral Home, Waupaca, is assisting the family.
