Steele, Robert E.

Robert E. Steele, 75, of Omro, died peacefully saying his goodbyes to his family and loved ones, on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Hospice Home of Hope, Fond du Lac.

He was a father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and very dear friend to many. He was born December 10, 1937 in Pueblo, CO, the son of Leonard and Amy Tice Steele. Robert served in the U.S. Navy from May 1955 until his honorable discharge in February 1959. He was a firefighter in California where he courageously saved a woman’s life. He owned and operated The Silver Pony in Phoenix, AZ, where he had many close friends and rode his horse Dexter or his mule Cisco every year on many trail rides, was an independent pilot and worked many years for operating engineers. Robert had a contagious laugh and he loved sports, riding horses, car shows, air shows, singing and dancing, playing the guitar, boating and spending time at his 2nd home in Williams, AZ. In his retirement he rebuilt a 1912 Model T-Ford.

He is survived by his children, Tanner, and Bobbi Jo, of WI, Robyn of Canada, Bobby of Washington, Keith of Hawaii and Terri of California; grandchildren; one brother, Ken (Sue) Steele, AZ; very close friend, Jo Steele; nieces and nephews; and many other friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Shirley and Jackie. He will be missed dearly by all his family and all his friends in Wisconsin and Arizona. Robert held a special bond with everyone he knew and the memories he left behind will stay in our hearts forever.

Graveside services were held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King, WI. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Home of Hope for their care and compassion given to Robert. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
