Sex offender charged with registry violation

Philip J. Rath Jr., 52, formerly of Waupaca, was charged with violating the terms of the sex offender registry.

On Oct. 4, 1993, Rath was convicted in Calumet County of first-degree sexual assault of a child. His eight-year prison sentence was stayed and he was placed on probation with one year in jail. Then his probation was revoked after he failed to comply with the sex offender registry.

On Nov. 20, 2012, Rath was released from custody. He moved to a home on West Road in the town of Dayton, where he was required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.

On Nov. 24, 2012, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Monitoring Center notified agents that Rath’s bracelet had been tampered with and apparently removed.

Agents attempted to contact Rath at his last-known address in Dayton but were unable to find him.

On March 20, 2013, Rath was apprehended in Omaha, Neb., where he was last known to be in Douglas County jail.
