Diamond Cats win Clipper Invitational

Hatten Stadium was abuzz with activity last weekend as New London hosted the annual Clipper Invitational legion baseball tournament.

Games began on Thursday. Participating teams included New London, Clintonville, Shiocton, Manawa, and Bonduel. The tournament was a round robin format.

On Thursday, July 11, Shiocton beat Bonduel 3-2, and New London beat Manawa, 1-0.

On Friday, July 12, Clintonville beat Manawa 11-0, and New London beat Shiocton 11-3.

On Saturday, July 13, Clintonville beat Shiocton 13-0, Shiocton beat Manawa 13-5, and New London beat Bonduel, 7-6.

On Sunday, July 14, Clintonville beat Bonduel 14-0 and Bonduel beat Manawa 11-1. New London and Clintonville faced off in the 8 p.m. game, with both teams sporting unbeaten records in the tournament. Clintonville stayed perfect to win the tournament by beating New London, 6-4.

The Diamond Cats had beaten Wittenberg 14-4 on Monday night before the Clipper invite began on Thursday night. In that game, he Diamond Cats ended the game after six innings, winning by the 10-run rule. Jansen Van Daalwyk earned the win on the mound, piling up seven strikeouts in four innings of work. Nic Hogen pitched the last two innings.

Garrick Morgan was 3×4 with two doubles, while Van Daalwyk was also 3×4. Adam Weatherwax was 2×3 with a double, while Hogen was 2×4. Turner Doornink, Austin Paisar, Ben Klein, and Parker Mindel all had hits.
