Local students attend Youth Leadership Congress

Two students from the Little Wolf High School recently attended a leadership conference.

Jacob Kaczorowski and Molly Loughrin were among nine area students who attended the annual Youth Leadership Congress (YLC), held July 10-12 at the University of River Falls campus.

Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative sponsored the nine students.

The Youth Leadership Congress is co-sponsored by the UW-River Falls and Wisconsin’s electric cooperatives.

This year’s attendees included: August Norman and Madeline Brandl, Rosholt High School; Christy Waldner, Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School; Sonia High and Shannon Caskey, Bowler High School; Krystal Tysdal and Natalie Gauerke, Iola-Scandinavia High School.

The entire program is planned, and in many cases, presented by a Youth Board selected by their peers. The Youth Board selected this year plans next year’s congress

This summer, YLC celebrated 50 years.

There were over 125 students representing the 25 electric cooperatives in Wisconsin at the three-day event. They were able to strengthen their leadership skills by attending workshops, hand-on activities, and team building exercises.

The students learned about the different ways cooperatives affect everyday life, what a cooperative is and the many different kinds of cooperatives there are, careers in electric cooperatives, effective communications, and alternative energy sources.
