Wolves run past Cardinals

A relentless rushing attack helped the Wolves earn a 26-12 win over Pacelli on Parents Night, Friday, Sept. 20.

Rain poured down during the first half, and the running game took center stage. The Wolves ran the ball time and again, with Garret Vandenhout scoring on a five-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Rains continued, and the Wolves running game stayed on track. Garret Griffin recovered a Pacelli fumble and later scored on a 21-yard touchdown scamper.

In the second half, Manawa’s defense again forced a turnover as Luke Wilz intercepted a pass on a fake punt play by Pacelli.

In the final quarter, Vandenhout found the end zone again, this time from 18 yards out. Wilz added a four yard touchdown run to keep the game out of reach.

Pacelli scored late in the game on a five-yard pass and a one-yard touchdown run, but it was too little, too late.

Manawa finished the game with two running backs gaining over 100 yards, as Griffin rushed for 139 yards and Wilz added 107.

Manawa takes their 2-1 conference record on the road to Amherst on Friday, Sept. 27.
