Polar Bears, Hawks top Bulldogs

A Bay Conference volleyball match between the Hortonville Polar Bears and the New London Bulldogs ended in a 3-1 victory for the visiting Polar Bears.

Hortonville cruised to a 25-14 win in game one, but New London battled back to win the second game, 25-22.

The Polar Bears confounded the Bulldogs in the third game, winning by a 25-12 margin. The fourth game saw New London mount a strong bid to send the match to a decisive fifth game, but Hortonville was able to escape with a 28-26 win.

Caleigh Shaw led New London with 11 attack kills, 13 block kills and five digs. Payton Mix added one ace, six attack kills and one block kill. McKoy Mix contributed one attack kill and 12 digs.

Morgan Gorges chipped in with one attack kill, three block kills, one assist and three digs. Jenna Mytton added one ace, one attack kill, 24 assists and five digs. Molly O’Connell talliled one ace, four attack kills, three block kills, one assist and six digs. Alanna Beyer added 16 digs, while Cassidy Shaw tallied two attack kills.

Shawano 3, New London 1

The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking game one by a score of 25-12.

New London bounced back to take the second game by a score of 25-22, but Shawano won the next two games by scores of 25-18 and 25-12 to close out the match.

Caleigh Shaw had one ace, nine attack kills, five block kills, one assist, and two digs. McKoy Mix added one ace, three attack kills, and six digs. Mytton contributed one attack kill, one block kill, two digs, and 19 assists.

The Bulldogs host Seymour at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.
