Wolves earn Homecoming win

The Wolves varsity football team put on a show for fans and alumni at Homecoming this year, beating Wittenberg-Birnamwood 33-12.

Garret Griffin led the attack for the Wolves, scoring all five of the team’s touchdowns while also drilling a field goal.

Griffin got rolling with a five-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and followed it up with an eight-yard run later in the period.

The Wolves defense added to the mayhem when Zach Kreklow blocked a Charger punt, giving the Wolves offense another opportunity to score. Griffin made sure he found the goal line, scoring from eight yards out.

The Chargers scored in the second quarter, but Manawa answered with a 32-yard field goal from Griffin, and the score was 21-6 at halftime.

The Chargers scored in the third quarter to close the gap, but Griffin responded by returning the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown.

Griffin brought a conclusion to the scoring with a 34-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

With the win, the Wolves moved to 3-2 in the CWC-8 Conference and 4-3 overall. They travel to Iola-Scandinavia for a game with possible playoff implications on Friday, Oct. 11.
