Ehlert, Edward W.

Edward W. Ehlert, age 92 of Clintonville, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013 at a local nursing home.

Born on September 30, 1921 in Embarrass, he was the son of the late Herman and Ella (Kruse) Ehlert. On July 21, 1944 he was united in marriage to Betty Strong at the Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass. The couple celebrated nearly 65 years together before Betty’s death on June 25, 2009. Edward retired from the Urban Telephone Company after managing a line crew for 42 years. When he was not working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, curling, reading and tending to his beautiful rose garden. He also enjoyed snowmobiling at his cottage in Lakewood and loved old westerns, cowboys, horses and was a “wanna-be” cowboy. Edward was proud to have been a founder of Little League Baseball in Clintonville.

Edward is survived by: 2 daughters, Carla (Bill Ignowski) Hedtke of Oconto Falls, Nancy (Michael) Grill of Appleton; a son, Russ (Bonnie) Ehlert of Edgerton; 5 grandchildren: Michael (Sally) Hedtke of Crystal Falls, MI; Michelle (Patrick) Virtues of Little Suamico, Christa (Michael) Van Pay of Sturgeon Bay, Dr. Jennifer (Michael) Robert of Milwaukee, Sara (Vicerut) Nonzee of Neenah; and 5 great-grandchildren: Jacob Virtues, Kayla Virtues, Lee Hedtke, Evan Hedtke and Addison Van Pay. Edward was preceded in death by: his parents, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville with the Rev. Ben Hollingsead officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Embarrass. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00am until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with arrangements.
