Teen charged with sexual assault

Asa T. Brown, 19, Neshkoro, was charged in Waupaca County Circuit Court with first-degree sexual assault of a child.

On July 14, Waupaca Police Officer Clint Schroeder spoke with the mother of a 3-year-old girl who accused Brown of sexually assaulting her daughter.

The following day, Detective Sgt. Brian Hoelzel interviewed the mother regarding the incident. The mother said when she told her daughter she planned to bring Brown to their home to visit, the girl pleaded that he not be allowed to come over, then described a sexual act involving her and Brown.

According to the criminal complaint, Brown told Hoelzel he had been experiencing suicidal thoughts, was severely depressed and suffered from memory loss. He said he had been seeing a psychologist, who indicated he may be repressing thoughts as a coping mechanism.

Brown reportedly said he cannot remember anything about the alleged incident, but the more details he hears from family members, the more he believes he did it.

Brown faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted of sexual assault of a child.
