Wayne B. Ten Broek, age 95, formerly of Watertown, WI, passed away on Monday, November 11th, 2013 at Crystal River Nursing & Rehab.Center in Waupaca, WI.
He was born in rural North Dakota on April 12, 1918, a son of the late Barney and Ada (Brennecke) Ten Broek. He married Mildred C. Meyer on October 22, 1943 in Milwaukee, WI.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Ten Broek; children: Anita (Robert) Olson, Waupaca, WI; Dorothy (Jim) Smith, Victoria, TX; Garret Ten Broek, Mobridge, SD; Arne (Jacque) Ten Broek, Conifer, CO; 8 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Joyce Hartman and a brother, Merrill (Bud) Ten Broek.
Wayne attended high school at Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, SD. He attended Northwestern Lutheran College in Watertown, WI and graduated from the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI in 1942. He was a parish pastor in Rapid City, SD for 2 years and in Henry and Florence, SD for 12 years. Wayne became a Professor at Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, SD from 1954-1979 teaching Latin, Religion and Ancient History. He was also the Dean of Students. He then became a Professor of Latin and Greek at Northwestern Lutheran College in Watertown, WI from 1979-1987. He retired in 1987 as Professor Emeritus. In retirement, he enjoyed reading, yard work and traveling throughout the United States.
Funeral Services will be held at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waupaca at 11 AM on Thursday, November 14th, 2013, with Reverend Brett Brauer, Watertown, WI and Reverend Loren Fritz, Waupaca officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 10 AM until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 605 S 4th Street, Watertown, WI 53094. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
