Rodeo brag board created

The Mid-Western Rodeo has developed a brag board to help promote the annual event.

The new brag board was introduced by Mid-Western Rodeo Secretary Connie Klotzbuecher at the Manawa Chamber of Commerce meeting on Thursday, Nov. 7.

“All Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) rodeos were asked to submit a brag board showing off their 2013 rodeo, which will then be displayed at the PRCA Convention in Las Vegas on Dec. 2- 5,” Klotzbuecher said. “The Mid-Western Rodeo Brag Board displays our successes, our volunteers, our community and our pride.”

The brag board is currently displayed at the Manawa Municipal Building and will be moved to various businesses to be viewed in the coming months.

“The rodeo is an awesome event for this small town and we need to brag about it,” Klotzbuecher said.

In other business, the chamber discussed the absence of board members at meetings.

“It’s not fair to have them sit on the board (and miss most of the meetings) and it’s also against the bylaws,” John Smith said.

He noted there wasn’t a quorum at a recent meeting, so they could not approve the proposed budget.

“The bylaws do state they need to attend so many (consecutive) meetings or else you replace them,” Tom Squires said. “We need to enforce that.”

Smith suggested that there should be an alternative board member and asked for volunteers. Judy Trull volunteered to serve as an alternate.

The chamber also discussed working on replacing the “Welcome to Manawa” signage. Klotzbuecher volunteered to chair a committee to look into replacing and/or renovating the signs.

The chamber’s next meeting will be held at noon on Thursday, Dec. 5, at Sturm Memorial Library.

There will be a Chamber After 5 meeting on Thursday, Jan. 9, at Lindsay House Bed & Breakfast.
