Allenstein not seeking re-election

Donna Allenstein will not seek another term on the Weyauwega Common Council.

On Friday, Dec. 6, Allenstein, who represents District 2, turned in her non-candidacy papers.

“I have always wanted to be free to help my kids by babysitting their new babies and helping them fix up their first homes. And thankfully, that is the season of life I find myself in,” she said. “I still have my accounting job, but I’m trading my city meeting schedule for dates with my grandsons and ‘vacations’ with a paint brush.”

Being a “public person” has been somewhat outside of her personality comfort zone.

Allenstein says the most important things people bring to the table are their life experiences and willingness to “process information” toward good decision-making.

The best cost-conscious decisions are made with the long term in mind, she said.

Allenstein served on the Common Council for 10 years, up until 2009, before again being elected to the council in April of 2012.

“I will miss working with our new administrator, Patrick Wetzel. I have a tremendous amount of confidence in his leadership and in the rest of the city employees who serve so faithfully,” she said. “Anyone who runs will be in good hands. I thank this community for trusting me to serve.”
