Hawks rough up Truckers

The visiting Xavier Hawks handed the Clintonville girls’ basketball team a 52-21 defeat Thursday, Dec. 5.

Xavier applied lots of pressure on defense and forced 30 turnovers while nabbing 13 steals from the Lady Truckers. The Hawks’ defense held Clintonville to just 5 of 21 (23 percent) shooting and held a 14-10 rebounding advantage.

Xavier had just one player score in double figures, but 11 players contributed to the offense.

Taylor Carpenter led Clintonville with five points, while Autumn Voight scored four. Olivia Wagenson added four points, Ali Johnson netted three points, Emma Polzin tallied two points, Etta Sorenson notched two points, and Jade Stilen earned one point.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 34, Clintonville 25

The Chargers and Truckers were tied at 5 after one quarter, but Wittenberg-Birnamwood outscored Clintonville in the second quarter to lead 14-9 at halftime.

The Chargers outscored the Truckers 9-8 in the third quarter and 11-8 in the final frame to seal the victory.

Clintonville had just three assists and 23 turnovers, but notched 11 steals and 10 blocks.

Voight and Johnson led Clintonville with seven points each, while Sorenson added four, Wagenson sunk three, and Carpenter and Danielle Kiefer both scored two.

The Lady Truckers play at home on Friday, Jan. 3, with opening tip set for 7:15 p.m.
