Truckers win big over Berlin

The Trucker boys varsity basketball team soundly defeated the Berlin Indians on Tuesday, Dec. 3, by a final score of 46-21.

The Truckers jumped out to an early 14-5 lead after one quarter and never looked back. Clintonville outscored Berlin 9-5 in the second quarter, 11-4 in the third quarter, and 12-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Truckers made 20 of 49 shots (40 percent) while holding the Indians to just 7 of 32 (21 percent) shooting. Clintonville outrebounded Berlin 30-23 and had 10 assists versus Berlin’s two.

The Truckers nabbed 18 steals, while Berlin had just five thefts. Clintonville turned the ball over 11 times, while Berlin coughed it up 23 times.

Andy Schmidt led all scorers with 13 points, and Turner Doornink added 11. Other Truckers who found the hoop included Aaron Teske (4), Ross Westphal (2), Aaron Morse (2), Tyler Petermann (4), Nick Hogen (5), Parker Mindel (4), and Skyler Lehman (1).

Xavier 63, Clintonville 28

Xavier held a 7-4 lead after one quarter and led 26-12 at halftime. The Hawks erupted for 24 points while holding the Truckers to just seven points in the third quarter and closed out the game by outscoring Clintonville 13-9 in the final frame.

Clintonville made 12 of 40 shots (30 percent), while Xavier made 21 of 42 (50 percent). The Hawks made nine 3-point baskets, while Clintonville hit just one.

The Hawks also made 12 of 17 free throws (70 percent) while the Truckers made 3 of 11 (27 percent) from the charity stripe.

Xavier held a 27-22 advantage in rebounding, a 14-5 advantage in assists, a 10-8 advantage in steals, a 1-0 advantage in blocks, and a 13-20 advantage in turnovers.

Mindel led Clintonville with nine points while Schmidt scored six and Petermann added four. Doornink dropped in three, and Lehman, Hogen, and Teske all scored two.

The Truckers play at home on Friday, Dec. 20. Opening tip is set for 7:15 p.m.
