Hitchhiker charged with bail jumping

John M. Lozier, 43, Waupaca, was charged Dec. 6 with felony bail jumping.

On Oct. 22, Lozier was charged with an eighth drunken driving offense and released on a $1,000 signature bond with the condition that he not consume or possess any alcohol.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Nov. 29, Waupaca County Sheriff’s deputies James Santiago and Tim Meyers were traveling on County Road QQ when they observed a man standing on the shoulder of the road with his thumb in the air as if he was hitchhiking.

The deputies pulled over and Santiago questioned the man, identified as Lozier.

Lozier told the deputies he had consumed a “couple of beers.”

When the deputies reminded Lozier that the conditions of his bond included a prohibition of consuming alcohol, Lozier reportedly said his attorney advised him differently.
