Seefeld, Gertrude Alice

Gertrude Alice Seefeld, age 90, passed away peacefully Monday, December 23rd, 2013 after a short illness.

Born December 5th, 1923, daughter of Carl and Elsie Schneider, Gert was a life-long member of Emanuel Lutheran Church of New London. On August 29th, 1942, she was united in marriage to Harvey Seefeld. Together they worked and farmed, raising their two children, Rod and Sandy. Gert also was employed at the Hortonville toy factory and as a beautician at Beth Ann’s Beauty Shop and later at St. Joseph’s Residence in New London; after retirement there were yearly fishing trips to Canada, summer visits to family at Bear Lake and innumerable cut-throat games of Shmear– “If your partner can’t help you, set ‘em.” It was a lesson learned early and well. Gert will be missed for her quick and easy laughter, her ability to strike up a conversation with just about anyone, and, of course, her special, homemade chocolate cake.

Survived by one daughter, Sandy Danke, New London; her children, Melanie (Kirk), Joel (Sue), and Nellie (Bruce); a son, Rod (Marsha) Seefeld, New London; their children, Curt (Debbie), Todd (Brenda), and Tammy (Steve); one sister-in-law, Lucille Fritz, New London; and nine great-grandchildren, Hattie, Sam, Besso, Tigist, Miki, Owen, Evelyn, Sarah and Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Seefeld; her parents, Carl and Elsie Schneider; and one brother, Vernon Schneider.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, December 28th, 2013 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. Friends may call at the church from 10am Saturday until the time of service. Rev. William Heiges officiating. Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London, assisted the family with the arrangements.
