Waupaca woman charged with battery

Sharon M. Topping, 58, Waupaca, was charged with felony strangulation, misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct.

On Tuesday, Dec. 24, Waupaca Police Officer Nicole Hahn was dispatched to Whistling Pines on County Road QQ in response to a complaint that a resident there attacked the building manager.

Hahn met with the manager, who said Topping had lived at the facility for about a year. She said Topping had attacked an employee on two prior occasions, but the incidents were minor and were not pursued.

According to the criminal complaint, the building manager told Topping to return a present she had picked up from beneath a Christmas tree. Topping allegedly responded by hitting the building manager several times, grabbing her by the neck and choking her.

Topping is being held in custody on a $500 cash bond.
