Indians lose 43-40 to Vikings

Winnebago Lutheran Academy handed Weyauwega-Fremont a 43-40 nonconference girls’ basketball defeat Jan. 3.

W-F outscored the Vikings 10-9 in the first quarter, but the Vikings took a 24-23 lead into the locker room at halftime and added to their lead with a 10-4 advantage in the third quarter.

The Indians outscored the visitors 13-9 over the final eight minutes.

“WLA is a solid team and they did a good job of taking advantage of mistakes,” coach Joe Titus said. “We took the lead in the first half, then they knocked down two threes and we just weren’t able to get it back. The girls fought hard to get back in the game and had a chance to tie it at the end.”

Karissa Akey led the Indians with 15 points, while Morgan Wilson and Alyssa Goode finished with 12 and 11, respectively.

“Alyssa did a great job finding holes in their defense,” Titus said. “Her penetration and aggressiveness is paying off. Morgan and Karissa did a good job in the paint and kept us in the game. We just didn’t have enough answers.”

Holly Pamperin led WLA with 13 points.

The Indians will return to Central Wisconsin 8 Conference play at 7:30 tonight (Thursday, Jan. 9) at Bonduel. The next home game is Tuesday, Jan. 14, against Stevens Point Pacelli.
