Bulldogs wear down Phantoms

Despite a slow start and a mere two-point halftime lead, the New London girls’ basketball team was still able to cruise to a 30-14 win over the visiting West De Pere Phantoms on Thursday, Jan. 9.

New London led 4-2 after one quarter, which featured great defense from both teams, as well as a few sloppy turnovers from both teams.

The Bulldogs and Phantoms both scored eight points in the second quarter, leaving New London with a two-point lead at the break.

New London turned up the heat in the third quarter, outscoring West De Pere 10-2. The Bulldogs closed the game by outscoring the Phantoms 8-2 in the fourth quarter.

New London made 12 of 44 shots (27 percent) and hit 3 of 10 3-pointers (30 percent) and 3 of 8 free throws (37 percent).

The team gathered 24 rebounds and tallied 11 assists. The Bulldogs also snared 10 steals, earned five blocks, and committed just 10 turnovers. The team was whistled for 12 fouls in the contest.

Lexi Roland and Leah Porath led New London with seven points each, while Mickey Roland added six points. Payton Mix tallied four points, Maddie Sanderfoot added three, Cambria Fitzgerald netted two, and Gretl Steingraber added one.

The Bulldogs play at home on Friday, Jan. 17. Opening tip is set for 7:15 p.m.
