Fishing is Fun Day a big hit

About 100 kids, parents and volunteers showed up Jan. 11 at Waupaca’s First United Methodist Church for the sixth annual Fishing Is Fun Day.

Featured presenters included conservation warden Ted Dremel, ice fishing expert Terry Nellis, fly-tying pro Bjorn Christensen and Glenn “Turtle” Scholz, who had his students tied in knots.

Various volunteers from the church helped supervise fish cookie decorating, minnow races, casting and snack time. All the youths learned about the joy of fishing and received a plethora of prizes donated by individuals and fishing companies.

The following groups and companies donated prizes this year: Drivers 2B, Fleet Farm, TII Blakemore, Peach Bottom Baits, Adventure Products, Lynn Meyer, Lunker City, Practical Outdoor Gear, Pro-Cure, Thunder Bullets, Mister Twister, CLC Work Gear, Lockett Industries, Vexilar and the state Department of Natural Resources.
