W-F girls drop conference matchup

Morgan Wilson scored a game-high 21 points for Weyauwega-Fremont, but it wasn’t enough, as Bonduel picked up a 46-39 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference girls’ conference matchup Jan. 9 over the Indians.

The Bears held the Indians to nine points in the first half, as they led 16-4 after one period and 27-9 at the break.

W-F cut into the lead with a 15-9 advantage in the third quarter before outscoring the Bears 15-10 over the final eight minutes.

“Bonduel came out with a lot of energy and it showed on the boards,” coach Joe Titus said. “They outrebounded us 40-30, including 13 offensive rebounds, which really hurt us. The girls did a good job of clawing back in the second half, but it was too deep a hole to crawl out of.”

Karissa Akey added eight points for the Indians.

“Morgan showed good leadership by example and really forced us back into the game,” Titus said. “We just need to learn from this and get ready for (Stevens Point) Pacelli and Iola.”

The Indians were scheduled to host Pacelli Jan. 14, but that game was postponed due to the weather and will be rescheduled. W-F will take on Iola-Scandinavia at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, in Iola.
