Iola-Scandinavia’s boys’ basketball team picked up a 62-50 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference win Jan. 24 over Bonduel.
The Thunderbirds outscored the Bears 17-5 in the first quarter and 13-6 in the second to build a 30-11 halftime lead.
Bonduel chipped away at the lead a little in the third quarter, but still trailed 49-33 heading into the final period. The Bears also outscored the T-Birds 17-13 over the final eight minutes, but the halftime deficit turned out be too much to overcome.
Braiden Garbe and Kristian Welch led the T-Birds with 20 and 19 points, respectively, while Connor Lodewegen added nine.
The T-Birds improved to 12-2 on the season and 5-2 in CWC-8 play. I-S will host Stevens Point Pacelli, one of two teams to defeat the T-Birds this season, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31. I-S will also travel to Rosholt to face the Hornets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, in a nonconference matchup.
