Late three-pointer lifts Foxes over Comets

A last-second three-pointer added up to a two-point loss Jan. 31 for the Waupaca boys’ basketball team.

Aaron Hungerford’s shot with 4.2 seconds remaining gave Fox Valley Lutheran a 63-61 come-from-behind win over the Comets.

Waupaca led 20-12 after one quarter, 33-24 at halftime and 47-43 after three quarters before the Foxes outscored the Comets 20-14 in the fourth quarter.

Zander Neuville and Nate Jenson accounted for all but 14 of Waupaca’s points, as they led the Comets with 27 and 20, respectively. Derek Ashman led the Foxes with 23.

Waupaca opened a five-game home stand Feb. 4 against Ripon and will host Winneconne at 7:15 tonight (Thursday, Feb. 6). The schedule also includes home games Tuesday, Feb. 11, against Berlin; Friday, Feb. 14, against Hortonville; and Saturday, Feb. 15, against Little Chute.
