Freshman leads Chiefs over T-Birds

Shiocton freshman Nathan Schmidt has made a name for himself so far this season in the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference.

His game-high 31 points Feb. 7 – including five three-pointers – helped the Chiefs hand Iola-Scandinavia a 70-48 loss.

The Thunderbirds also picked up a 59-27 nonconference win Feb. 4 over Rosholt.

Shiocton 70, I-S 48

SHIOCTON – Shiocton outscored the T-Birds 14-6 in the first quarter. I-S cut the deficit to 29-25 at halftime, but the Chiefs outscored the visitors 20-9 in the third quarter and 21-14 over the final eight minutes.

Evan Fuhs and Connor Lodewegen led the T-Birds with 10 points each.

I-S 59, Rosholt 27

ROSHOLT – Alec Lund had 16 points and Kristian Welch added 10 in a win over the Hornets.

The T-Birds played a rescheduled game at Wittenberg-Birnamwood Feb. 10, hosted Amherst Feb. 11 and will head to Manawa for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Wolves Friday, Feb. 14. I-S will also host Manawa Monday, Feb. 17, in another rescheduled game.
