Mustangs race past Truckers

The Trucker varsity basketball team got off to a slow start against the Little Chute Mustangs on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and couldn’t catch up as the Mustangs earned a 39-19 win.

Clintonville trailed by 13 after one quarter and was down 24-8 at halftime. The Mustangs added to their lead by outscoring the Truckers 10-8 in the third quarter and 5-3 in the fourth quarter.

Taylor Carpenter led Clintonville with six points, while Etta Sorenson added five. Caitie Carpenter added four, Olivia Wagenson scored two, and Danielle Kiefer scored two.

Clintonville made 8 of 32 shots (25 percent) and missed two shots from beyond the arc. The team made 3 of 7 free throws (42 percent).

The Mustangs outrebounded Clintonville 30-20 and had 15 steals compared to Clintonville’s seven. The Truckers had 25 turnovers, while Little Chute had 11 giveaways.

Freedom 49, Clintonville 45

The Truckers suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss against the Freedom Irish on Friday, Feb. 7.

Clintonville led 26-25 at halftime, but the score was tied by the end of regulation. In overtime, the Irish offense was too much for the Trucker defense, as they outscored Clintonville 7-3 to earn the win.

Caitie Carpenter scored 19 to lead Clintonville, while Autumn Voight added seven. Sorenson scored six, Taylor Carpenter added five, Ali Johnson netted four, Wagenson contributed three, and Emma Polzin scored two.

The team made 19 of 59 shots (32 percent) and hit 5 of 14 from 3-point range (35 percent). The Truckers made just 2 of 12 free throws (16 percent).

Clintonville grabbed 20 rebounds, notched two assists, picked up nine steals, and turned the ball over 13 times.

The Truckers will play at home on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Opening tip is set for 7:15 p.m.
