New London girls win 2, lose 1

The Bulldogs stormed to another big win on Monday, Feb. 10, this time defeating the Marinette Marines by a score of 56-16.

New London led 15-4 after one quarter and 34-13 at halftime. They upped their lead to 43-13 after three quarters and outscored the Marines 13-3 in the final frame.

Lexi Roland led New London with 13 points, while Amber Pethke added 11. Leah Porath narrowly missed a double-double, scoring 10 points and snagging nine rebounds. Mickey Roland netted eight points and grabbed eight boards, while Maddie Schroeder, Cambria Fitzgerald and Payton Mix all scored four. Gretl Steingraber added two.

New London made 24 of 63 shots (38 percent), including 5 of 17 from 3-point range (29 percent). They also made 3 of 8 free throws (37 percent).

As a team, the Bulldogs gathered 40 rebounds, tallied 16 assists, notched 19 steals, turned the ball over just 10 times and committed 14 fouls.

New London 45, West De Pere 22

New London led 11-5 after one quarter and 25-11 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, New London led 31-14. The Bulldogs outscored the Phantoms 14-8 in the fourth quarter.

Mickey Roland led New London with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Porath added 11 points. Lexi Roland tallied nine, Mix added five, Cassidy Pethke added two and Schroeder added one.

FVL 44, New London 39

A rough night for the Bulldogs was compounded by a slow start, as they trailed 17-13 at halftime. Fox Valley Lutheran (FVL) outscored New London 13-12 in the third quarter, while both teams scored 14 points in the final frame.

Porath scored nine to lead New London, while Fitzgerald, Amber Pethke and Mickey Roland all scored seven. Lexi Roland and Mix both scored four and Steingraber added one.

New London made 16 of 45 shots (35 percent), hitting just 2 of 9 from beyond the arc (22 percent) and making only 5 of 13 free throws (38 percent). The team committed 19 turnovers and was whistled for 18 fouls while coming up with just eight steals.

The Bulldogs play at home on Friday, Feb. 21. Opening tip is set for 7:15 p.m.
