Two Trucker wrestlers advance to Sectionals

The Clintonville High School wrestling team competed at the Division 2 Regionals at Oconto Falls lastSaturday, Feb. 15. Two Trucker wrestlers advanced to Sectionals.

Cole Cotherman placed 3rd at 106 pounds. Cotherman started the day defeating Brian Krouth of Peshtigo by a decision of 6-5. He lost his second match to Mitch Garvey of Freedom by a fall in 0:56. He defeated Evan Konitzer of Oconto Falls by a decision of 3-2 and later lost the wrestle back match to Bennett Temple of Seymour by a major decision, 10-3.

Kelvyn Van Laarhoven placed 4th at 132 pounds. Van Laarhoven started the day by defeating Tristen Unsinn of Seymour by a fall in 0:19. He lost his second match to Brett Ash of Oconto Falls by a fall in 3:34. He later lost his third match to Dustin Jensen of Freedom by a fall in 2:38.

Darin Carrigg placed 4th at 138 pounds. Carrigg started the day by defeating Max Drees of Marinette by a fall in 1:32. He lost his second match to Seth Vosters of Freedom by a fall in 1:27. He lost his third match to DJ Messenger of Peshtigo by a fall in 2:38.

Tim Jerabek took third at 152 pounds. Jerabek started the day by receiving a bye in the first round. He lost his second match to Jacob Yatso of Oconto Falls by a major decision 11-2. He defeated his second opponent, Brandon Dable of Seymour by a decision 3-2. He lost his wrestle back match to Tyler Brissette of Peshtigo by a fall in 1:37.

Charlie Poppe took 2nd at 170 pounds. Poppe will be competing next Saturday at Sectionals. Poppe started the day by receiving a bye in the first round. He defeated Dalton Thomas of Seymour by a decision 8-1 in the semi-finals. Poppe lost the finals to Ramsey Bloy of Freedom by a fall in 5:54.

Chase Jung placed 4th at 182 pounds. Jung started his day by defeating Sarek Boivin of Marinette by a fall in 1:58. Jung lost his second match to Kevin Vandenlangen of Seymour by a decision 8-2. Jung ended his day by losing to Mackinley Winkler of Oconto Falls by a decision, 10-6.

Jake Reiter took first at 195 pounds. Reiter will be competing next Saturday at Sectionals. Reiter started the day by receiving a bye in the first round. He defeated Kyle Wolf of Oconto Falls by a fall in 1:56. Reiter then defeated Evan Philibeck of Freedom in the finals by a fall in 1:16.

New London wrestlers advance

At Omro, New London’s wrestlers won the regional and qualified for a team sectional, held Feb. 18 in Freedom. Moving on to sectionals for the Bulldogs are Anna Malueg (113), Scott Cook (126), Skylar Moderson (132), Gabe Oswald (145), Austin Wyngaard (160), Tommy Thurber (170), Brett Handschke (182) and Andrew Clauss (195).

Matchups for New London are Malueg (8-19) vs. Clay Lieber of Nekoosa/Port Edwards (34-4), Cook (31-10) vs. Cody Walrath of Freedom (34-4), Moderson (23-17) vs. Keaton Kotek of Nekoosa/Port Edwards (28-7), Oswald (18-16) vs. Dewey Krueger of Oconto Falls (36-1), Wyngaard (24-7) vs. Brandon Buechler of Wrightstown (36-10), Thurber (31-9) vs. Ramsey Bloy of Freedom (33-9), Handschke (33-8) vs. Henry Helland of Tomahawk (34-9) and Clauss (16-13) vs. Scott Skornicka of Two Rivers (42-5).

Clintonville’s matchups are Poppe (34-9) vs. Hunter Messerschmidt of Winneconne (30-6) and Reiter (37-4) vs. D.J. Ostrowski of Wittenberg-Birnamwood (18-6).

Sectionals will be at Seymour next Saturday, Feb. 22. The first round starts at 10 a.m.
