Waupaca student headed to state spelling bee

Nathan Wachsmuth, a Waupaca eighth-grade student, will advance to the Badger State Spelling Bee to be held on March 29.

He and eighth grader Bailey Seefeldt were among the finalists in the CESA 5 Regional Spelling Bee in Wild Rose Tuesday, Feb. 11.

The 34th annual Waupaca School District Spelling Bee was held Jan. 30 at Waupaca Middle School. Forty students in grades three through eight participated in the local event.

Winners of the district’s spelling bee were seventh-grade students Alex Thuerman and Madysen Waid, and eighth-grade students Seefeldt and Wachsmuth.

The following students also participated in the District Spelling Bee:

Grade 3: Grace Auer, Norah VanGompel, Owen Smidt, Walker Durrant, Parker Krcmar, Brian MacEwen, Verena Bartel and Isaac Buster.

Grade 4: Hudson Bodenheimer, Caleb Mullet, Shania Sopa, Dimitri Karabelas, Ashley Hope and Madison Miller.

Grade 5: Aiden Schueller, Brecken Angsten, Malik Dillman, Dyani Larson and Ariana Shook.

Grade 6: Connor McCausland, Autumn Heisler, Sarah Shambeau, Kyle Pulvermacher, Alex Klemp, Brooke Hansen, Daniel Belcher and Bryton Sipp.

Grade 7: Colby Nimmer, Anna Ryder, Alex Dremel and Corynn Johnson.

Grade 8: Alexa Peterson, Alyssa Townsend, Kristen Petkovsek, Chloe Abrahamson and Austin Wagner.
