Learning to be entrepreneurs

Almost 100 high school students attended Mini Business World 2014, Thursday, Feb. 13.

At Mini Business World, which was held at Crystal Falls in New London, students were put into “companies” with students from other schools. Participating schools included Hortonville, Manawa and New London.

Once the students were placed in “companies” they were given the task of coming up with a new product. Once they chose their product, team members were assigned to marketing, communications or finance departments. Students then worked on their specialty within their group, creating logos, mission statements, financial statements and more. At the conclusion of the day the CEO of each team presented their team’s product to the rest of the groups.

Each team voted on the best product. Prizes were awarded to winning teams.

Steve Benzschawel, who led the day, kept the students engaged through a variety of video clips and stories.

The feedback from the students and teachers in attendance indicated that they saw value in the day’s activities and had fun interacting with students and teachers from other schools.

Hillshire Brands sponsored the day.
