Mangert, Theresa J.

Theresa J. Mangert, Waupaca, WI, age 90 – died on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca.

She was born on May 31, 1923 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Joseph and Kate Leifer. She married Merlin E. Mangert on November 1, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2004. Theresa is survived by her son Tom (Sharon) Mangert of Waupaca; a sister-in-law, Elaine Franzowiak of Milwaukee; a nephew, Mark (Julie) Franzowiak of Menomonee Falls and their children: Matthew, Paul, Dana, and Casey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin; her son, Jerry; her parents; two brothers, Joseph and Steve Leifer, and a brother-in-law, Donald Franzowiak.

Theresa had been employed at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI for 30 years and had been the resident counselor for a period of time in Stordock Hall, Olson Hall, and Burns-Clemens Hall. She was an active member of the VFW Post 1037 Ladies Auxiliary in Waupaca for many years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church – Baldwin’s Mill and had been active with the St. John’s Ladies Quilters. She was a very gifted seamstress making school bags, quilts, and baby blankets for Lutheran World Relief. Some of her other interests included, crafting, gardening, and helping her husband Merlin restore Model “A” Ford cars.

A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Baldwin’s Mill on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Roger Nielsen, officiating. A VFW Ladies Auxiliary service will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the Badger Cemetery, Twp. of Lanark, Portage County, WI at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in memory of Theresa J. Mangert. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
