McGlin, Joseph Raymond Jr.

Joseph Raymond McGlin Jr., age 92, formerly of Menasha, and Crandon, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2014.

Joe was born December 19, 1921, in the Township of Deer Creek, WI, son of Joseph R. McGlin Sr. and Rose (Werth) McGlin. Joe grew up on the family farm, worked at the FWD in Clintonville and at Gilbert Paper Co. in Neenah. During WWII (1942-1945), Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Service Battery of the 123rd Artillery Field Battalion of the 33rd Division of the U.S. Army in the South Pacific, New Guinea. Joe married Hazel Horn Frakes November 25, 1946. They opened McGlin’s Bar in 1949 and started J.R. McGlin & Sons Mason Construction in the Town of Menasha. Joe also was a volunteer fireman for the Town of Menasha Fire Department for 27 years, 15 years as Assistant Fire Chief. He was a member of the American Legion, lifetime member of the V.F.W., member of the Tavern League, the Lake Lucerne Association, and a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shiocton. Joe enjoyed hard work, family, friends and his home on Lake Lucerne where he retired in 1983. Eleven years later Joe was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He spent his last years at St. Joseph’s Residence in New London in their tender loving care.

Survivors include his children: Patricia (Larry) Schisel, Chilton; Kathleen (Eugene) Laux, Neenah; Michael (Marla) McGlin, Shiocton; Dennis (Susan) McGlin, Clintonville; grandchildren: Jill Schisel, Julie (James) Mackey, Jacquelyn Schisel, Christopher Laux (fiancée Rebecca Hintz), Kelly (Chad) Quandt, Michael (Susan) McGlin, Melanie (Andrew) Ebert, Denise (Robert) Olsen; his seven great-grandchildren: Megan, Lara, Grace, Aida, Conor, Caylee, and Noah; his step-children, Richard (Dona) Frakes and Joyce (Roger) Cummings and their children, Dennis Frakes, David (Stacy) Frakes, Barbara (Mark) Gaab, Debra, Ronald, and Susan Cummings; his brother-in-law, Ronald (Frena) Scheid; his very thoughtful cousin, Norm (Millie) Bodway and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife Hazel of 33 years, his brothers, Lester, Ivan and Lloyd McGlin and sister, Eileen Scheid and many good friends.

A funeral service for Joe will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home, Shiocton with Pastor Bradley Ragner officiating. Family and friends may call directly at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville.
