Indians off to 2-0 start

The season is barely under way, but the Weyauwega-Fremont softball team has a pair of Central Wisconsin 8 Conference wins under its belt.

The Indians needed only five innings to hand Amherst a 12-2 defeat April 7 after opening the season April 3 with a 7-5 win over Stevens Point Pacelli.

W-F scored once in the second inning against Amherst and added three more runs in the third, five in the fourth and three in the fifth. Amherst scored both of its runs in the top of the fifth.

Miranda Potratz had three of the Indians’ 12 hits, drove in run and scored three times. Rachel Knorr had two hits, including a triple, and added three RBIs; Karissa Akey and winning pitcher Katie Ponto chipped in with two hits each.

Ponto gave up two hits and finished with five strikeouts.

W-F will head to Shiocton Thursday, April 10, before traveling to Manawa Friday, April 11, and heading to Waupaca for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday, April 12. The Indians will also host Iola-Scandinavia Monday, April 14.
