Foxes shut out Truckers

Rainy weather eased up enough to allow the Clintonville girls’ soccer team to host Fox Valley Lutheran May 1.

Both teams had to slog through the mud and standing water, but the more experienced FVL team overcame the conditions to earn an 8-0 win.

The first two scores of the contest came from Clintonville players deflecting FVL passes into their own net.

FVL moved the ball quickly around the perimeter of the Trucker defense, pushing the score to 4-0 at halftime.

Clintonville made some personnel changes at halftime, with freshman Etta Sorenson, senior Sarah Tourville and freshman MaKayla Vollmer assuming new roles on defense.

Freshman Maddie Didier continued her steady improvement as the Clintonville goalie, recording 19 saves.

“The lack of playing time has hurt our evaluation of new players and new roles,” coach Roger Lupien said. “I believe that the defensive changes we made today will help us going forward. Sorenson, Tourville and Didier will keep us in most games. Our offense continues to need improvement and we will work on it as much as we can with the new game schedule.”
