Manawa picks up CWC-8 win

It looked for a while like the Manawa softball team would go winless in the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference this season.

Not so fast.

After dropping their first 10 CWC-8 games, the Wolves handed Bonduel a 6-5 defeat May 20 in a suspended game. The winning streak didn’t last long, however, as the Bears won the second game 7-1.

Manawa took a 6-0 lead in the first game with two runs in the first inning and four more in the second. The Bears countered with two runs in the second and three in the third before the game was suspended earlier this season in Bonduel.

The teams picked up the game in the fourth inning, but neither team scored.

Haley Reierson scattered six hits to get the win on the mound. Sammy Johnson had four of Manawa’s nine hits, including a double and a triple, while Reierson and Katie Velie had two each.

Bonduel’s Jenny Dowden held Manawa to four hits in the second game. The Bears scored three runs in the first and sixth innings and one in the fourth, while Manawa picked up its run in the first.
