W-F relay team sets school record twice

A long-standing Weyauwega-Fremont High School track record has been broken. Twice.

The W-F girls’ 400-meter relay team of Michaela Hintz, Caragan Volz, Megan Young and Miranda Arndt turned in a time of 52.69 seconds to win the event May 22 at the Last Chance Meet in Bonduel.

Jodie Javoroski, Cindy Tate, Jodi Baehman and Tanya Hering had held the previous record of 53.3 seconds since setting it in 1989 at the Chilton Sectional. That time beat the previous record set in 1976.

The Indians’ new record didn’t last long, however, as Hintz, Volz, Young and Arndt broke it again May 27 at the Division 2 Fox Valley Lutheran Regional in Appleton with a time of 52.49.

The W-F boys and girls placed third and fifth, respectively, in Bonduel, while the Iola-Scandinavia boys and girls placed fourth and third.

Other first-place finishes for W-F at Bonduel came from Brandon Colligan in the boys’ 100-meter dash (12.18); and Volz, Hintz, Young and Morgan Wilson in the girls’ 800-meter relay (1:51.82).

Placing first for the Thunderbirds were Leighten Fischer in the girls’ 400 (1:01.29) and long jump (16 feet, 9 inches); Tyisha Weed in the girls’ 100 (13.61); Emily Sether in the girls’ 1,600-meter run (5:45.81); Dylan Robbins in the 400-meter dash (52.45); Kristian Welch in the boys’ long jump (19 feet, 10 inches) and the girls’ 1,600-meter relay team of Weed, Sether, Shelby Trzebiatowski and Fischer (4:12.95).
