Waupaca Stamps Out Hunger

On May 10, letter carriers and volunteers in Waupaca collected approximately 9,408 pounds of food for the Waupaca Area Food Pantry.

Donations continued after May 10, and a total of 9,623 pounds of food were collected by May 21. Last year’s total was approximately 7064 pounds, so this year was great!

The greatness of this year’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive was a result of outstanding teamwork, communication and sponsorship.

Letter carriers, retired letter carriers and volunteers worked together to make this year’s food drive a success. Waupaca has a great network of people who consistently help out every year, and they feverishly moved and distributed nearly five tons of food.

The Waupaca County Post featured a well-written article about the food drive in the May 1 issue.  WDUX got the word out about the food drive, and they also featured me discussing the importance of the food drive on the Breakfast Show.

The sponsors this year were outstanding. They helped me with obtaining the blue bags for the donated we collected. Weiser Graphics, one of the sponsors, assisted me with getting logos of local businesses on the bags. Sponsors also helped the Waupaca Area Food Pantry financially by providing additional funds to purchase food items. First National Bank gave the pantry a big boost.

In conclusion, Waupaca stamped out hunger! Readers like you made a difference in the lives of those less fortunate on May 10.
