Truckers can?t top Tritons in regionals

Turner Doornink’s solo home run wasn’t enough to propel Clintonville to a Division 2 regional baseball championship victory, as the Truckers lost a 4-1 decision June 6 to top-seeded Green Bay Notre Dame.

Clintonville also picked up tournament wins over Peshtigo and Oconto Falls.

Notre Dame 4, Clintonville 1

GREEN BAY – Doornink went yard in the top of the first inning to give Clintonville a 1-0 lead, but the Tritons evened the score in the bottom of the second.

The Tritons added two runs in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth as the Trucker offense went cold.

Notre Dame’s Nick Zacharias allowing one run on two hits. Doornink took the loss for Clintonville, allowing four runs on five hits. The Trucker defense committed two errors.

Clintonville 7, Peshtigo 2
PESHTIGO – The third-seeded Truckers defeated second-seeded Peshtigo in a semifinal game June 4.

Clintonville led 3-0 after one inning and 5-0 after four. The Truckers added a run in the sixth and one in the seventh while Peshtigo got on the board with runs in the fifth and sixth.

Doornink led the Trucker offense with four hits, including a double, two home runs and four RBI. Nick Hogen and Parker Mindel added two of the team’s 11 hits.

Hogen scattered eight hits, walked one and struck out 10 batters to get the complete-game win on the mound. The Trucker defense committed three errors.

Clintonville 4, Oconto Falls 2
CLINTONVILLE – The Truckers and Panthers battled through three scoreless innings June 3 before Clintonville plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. One of those runs came on Doornink’s solo home run, while the other came on a bases-loaded RBI single by Marshall Faulks.

Clintonville added two more runs in the fifth inning and continued to hold the Panthers scoreless.

Oconto Falls got on the board with two runs in the seventh, but Clintonville’s defense ended the threat.

Doornink allowed two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out nine. The Trucker defense committed three errors.

Doornink also led the Truckers at the plate with two hits with a home run and two RBI. Mindel and Damon Lorge also had two hits, while Lorge and Faulks added one RBI each.

The Trucker offense earned 10 hits against Oconto Falls’ Riley Gruetzmacher, who took the loss.
