Mrs. Bernice (Vital) Coppersmith, age 97, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014.

She was born on June 21, 1916 in Lena, WI the daughter of Edward and Mayme (LeMere) Greenwood. She moved to Algoma as a young lady with her parents. She married Vital Coppersmith on August 23, 1939 and together they shared 57 years of marriage before his passing on September 25, 1996. Bernice and Vital lived in Algoma for 60 years. Bernice loved spending time in her big garden, especially picking her strawberries and raspberries. She also enjoyed playing cards with neighbors, family and friends. In 1994, she and Vital moved to Waupaca to be closer to their children.

Bernice is survived by her son, Lloyd (Diane) Coppersmith of Naples, FL and New London, WI; two daughters, Cleo (Giles) Bellin of Waupaca, WI and Donna (Ron) Thome of Green Bay, WI; two daughters-in-law, Karen Coppersmith of Denmark, WI and Kary Coppersmith of Green Bay, WI; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren. Bernice is also survived by several srep-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren, one sister, Florence Francour, 101 years old of Colman, WI; a sister-in-law, Jeanie Coppersmith of KY; a former daughter in-law, Jeanette Coppersmith of Plymouth, WI plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mayme Greenwood; her husband, Vital in 1996 ; two sons, Philip in Nov. 2013 and Donald in May 1995; two grandchildren; three sisters, Eva (Joseph) Kinzinger, Mary (Walter) McTavish, and Helen (Louis) Handle; two brothers, David Greenwood who died in infancy and George (Helen) Greenwood; a daughter-in-law, Stella Coppersmith and 5 brothers in law and 6 sister in laws.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca, WI. Father Amalraj Roche will preside. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM at the church. Burial will be at 3:15 PM on Wednesday afternoon at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Algoma, WI. The family would like to thank the staff of Park Vista Senior Living Center for their help caring for Bernice the last 3 years and also Theda-Care at Home for their help the last few months.
