Investigation may not be over

It took the Clintonville City Council more than 10 minutes to agree on the agenda when it met Tuesday, June 10.

The meeting was originally scheduled for Clintonville City Hall, but with the number of citizens attending the meeting, the council agreed to move the meeting to the Community Center.

Once the meeting was finally called to order at the Community Center, the agenda was scrutinized.

An item on the agenda requesting the release of the information from the city administrator investigation became an item of contention.

“I can see the results going out after we have closed session discussion, but I can’t see that prior to,” said Council President Jeannie Schley.

Schley said  members of the council were told not to talk about the investigation.

“I don’t know what exactly you are planning on releasing as the investigation was never completed. You vetoed the investigation kind of mid-process when it was sent over to the labor attorney. There’s been nothing on paper. From you I guess I want to know exactly what you are planning on releasing. There is nothing to release at this point.” Alderwoman Gloria Dunlavy asked Mayor Judy Magee.

City Attorney April Dunlavy asked Dunlavy if she was making a motion to remove the item because the item can’t be discussed until that point in the meeting.

Alderwoman Dunlavy made a motion to remove the item about releasing the results of the investigation from the agenda until the investigation is completed. Schley seconded the motion.

During discussion Schley agreed with Alderwoman Dunlavy that the investigation was never completed so there is nothing to release.

The motion passed 6-4. Aldermen Mark Doornink, Jerry Jorgenson, Phil Rath and Bill Zienert voted no.

Releasing the results of the investigation into alleged misconduct by the city administrator was removed from the agenda.

With that change and a couple others, the agenda was accepted by a 7-3 vote. Doornink, Jorgenson and Zienert voted no.
