Allen F. Henke, Iola, WI (formerly of Amherst Jct., WI,) age 98 – passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Iola Living Assistance in Iola, WI.
He was born on June 12, 1916 in Green Bay, WI, the son of Albert and Frances (Helgeson) Henke. He married Claryce O. Louison on April 6, 1946 in Amherst, WI. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2001. Allen is survived by his daughter, Mary (Robert) Jaynes of Bowling Green, KY; two sons, James Henke of Amherst Jct., and Kurt (Carol) Henke of Bolingbrook, IL; grandchildren, Matthew (Cindy) Jaynes of Omaha, NE; Mark (Marissa) Jaynes of Paducah, KY; and Luke (Abi) Jaynes of Janesville; a great-grandson, Tucker Jaynes, and a sister, Helene Anderson of Stevens Point. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Claryce; an infant daughter, three great-grandchildren: Faith, Peter, and Grace, his parents, and a sister; Evelyn Wolding.
Allen had farmed the family homestead in the Township of New Hope, Portage County his entire life. He was an active member of the Nelsonville Lutheran Church in Nelsonville, serving as an usher, and some time on the church council. He had also served on the Nelsonville Lutheran Cemetery Board. He enjoyed deer hunting for a number of years, and following his retirement from dairy farming he and Claryce enjoyed fishing and camping trips to northern Minnesota and Canada.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Nelsonville Lutheran Church in Nelsonville, WI, with the Reverend Gretchen Anderson, officiating. A visitation will be held at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst, WI on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., and at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.. Interment will be in the Nelsonville Lutheran Cemetery. The Jungers – Holly Funeral Home of Amherst, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
